Lautenberg is Right. We Don’t Need 100 Round Magazines to Hunt Duck! But We MAY to Prevent Tyranny!

US Senator Frank Lautenberg from New Jersey is an opportunist when it comes to gun control. Shortly after Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords was shot, the 88 year old Democrat did what left wingers do. He used the tragedy to push the left wing anti-gun crowd’s agenda. He’s a part of what has now become the normal progression of any shooting that happens.

It is like a dance. The Gun Control Two-step. Blame the TEA Party. Push for gun control.

So that is exactly what happened in the Giffords shooting. And the bill failed.

But he kept it in his desk drawer hoping waiting for another horrible tragedy to push his left wing agenda.

And the crazy 24 year old orange-haired TEA Party nut job gave him the opportunity to exploit more victims untimely deaths in the name of gun control. Never mind that in Colorado there is no “gun show” loophole, which is the left’s buzz phrase for shutting down private transactions between gun collectors. And let’s ignore the fact that while Aurora, Colorado was reluctantly forced to allow gun owners with Concealed Carry permits to take their guns with them by legislation a few years ago that made the state laws trump local laws in the state, it is illegal to discharge a firearm anywhere but a shooting range. And we must also ignore the fact that the theater itself prohibited guns and considered the premise, ironically, a “gun free safe zone”.

So Lautenberg thinks that more restrictions than they already have will help prevent this from happening.

But idiots like Lautenberg never stop to think that there is no tougher penalty on the books in any state than the penalty for murder. And that didn’t stop James Holmes. Or Gifford’s shooter. Or any of the nuts that want to harm lots of other people. All the existing gun laws managed to do was disarm potential hero’s who might have managed to at least knock down the body armor clad murderer and subdue him. Or save taxpayers a lot of time and money with a well placed shot in an area not protected.

So Lautenberg wants to go after not only the private sales (“loophole”) that Colorado has already addressed, but large capacity magazines as well.

MSNBC reports:

“We need to start today on efforts to prevent the next attack,” he (Lautenberg) said in a statement released Sunday. “No sportsman needs 100 rounds to shoot a duck, but allowing high-capacity magazines in the hands of killers like James Holmes and Jared Loughner puts law enforcement at a disadvantage and innocent lives at risk.”

Ironically, it has been reported that both the high capacity magazines that were used in both the Aurora shootings and the Giffords shooting jammed, which prevented more killing in all likelihood.

But Lautenberg shows he has no basic understanding of the Second Amendment. The Amendment was not added to the Constitution to preserve guns for hunters. So the New Jersey lefty is right on that aspect of his “logic”. Nobody needs a 100 round mag to shoot a duck.

The purpose of the Second Amendment was to dissuade the Federal Government from infringing on our rights to the point that the Tyranny they battled from the King of England could ever happen again. The Second Amendment is a deterrent, nothing more.

And a deterrent that, like Nuclear Weapons, one hopes we never need to use to keep the country free.

This nation was set up such that the people rule the government, not the other way around. And a well armed citizenry is part of the plan to keep America free.

The rapper turned actor Ice-T said:

Ice-T: Well, I’ll give up my gun when everybody does. Doesn’t that make sense? If there were guns here, would you want to be the only person without one?

Krishnan Guru-Murthy, anchor, Channel 4 News: So do you carry guns routinely at home?

Ice-T: Yeah, it’s legal in the United States. It’s part of our Constitution. You know, the right to bear arms is because that’s the last form of defense against tyranny. Not to hunt. It’s to protect yourself from the police.

So while it is hopped that the only use we will ever find for our guns is target practice, protection from those who would harm us, and putting dinner on the table, the primary purpose is to prevent government from changing it’s role in our lives to that of tyrannical rule. The American People are the government.

And if it takes 100 round magazines to keep the government honest, then that is what it takes.

Tragedies will, unfortunately, be a part of life. But if the alternative is giving up the deterrent that was designed to keep the people free, then so be it.

There are no “acceptable” losses in cases like this. And there are things we can do to limit these types of things from happening. But any legislation that disarms Americans will lead to something far worse than the loss of life.

It will lead to the loss of freedom.

And that is a life not worth living!

Frank Lautenberg and his ilk need to go back to the drawing board and draft legislation that remains true to the Second Amendment’s intent. And that intent is to protect us from the kinds of legislation that Lautenberg proposes whenever a tragedy is available for exploitation.

The fact is, the citizens of Colorado don’t need Lautenberg’s help. They already have taken the situation in hand.

In Colorado, the site of Friday’s shooting that killed 12 and injured dozens of others, gun sales jumped in the three days that followed. The state approved background checks for 2,887 people who wanted to purchase a firearm — 25 percent more than the average Friday to Sunday period in 2012 and 43 percent more than the same interval the week prior.

Dick Rutan, owner of Gunners Den in suburban Arvada, Colo., said requests for concealed-weapon training certification “are off the hook.” His four-hour course in gun safety, required for certification for a concealed-weapons permit in Colorado, has drawn double the interest since Friday.

“What they’re saying is: They want to have a chance. They want to have the ability to protect themselves and their families if they are in a situation like what happened in the movie theater,” Rutan said.

Abe Lincoln may have said it best in the Gettysburg Address:

But, in a larger sense, we can not dedicate — we can not consecrate — we can not hallow — this ground. The brave men, living and dead, who struggled here, have consecrated it, far above our poor power to add or detract. The world will little note, nor long remember what we say here, but it can never forget what they did here. It is for us the living, rather, to be dedicated here to the unfinished work which they who fought here have thus far so nobly advanced. It is rather for us to be here dedicated to the great task remaining before us — that from these honored dead we take increased devotion to that cause for which they gave the last full measure of devotion — that we here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain — that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom — and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth.

 

We should all favor gun control as it was intended. Of the people, by the people and for the People.

The good people of Colorado get it now.

There are some things government can do, but at the end of the day, we must take personal responsibility to ensure the right to Life, Liberty and Happiness are not snuffed out by a madman with a gun or an opportunistic Federal Government.
